Organizational Social Media

Fashion and Social Media

In the fashion industry, many stories have taken to social media to help market their products, and to involve and connect with customers better them better.  From the huge brands and retailers that are known globally to fashion startup businesses, social media creates an opportunity to spread information fast and connect with large masses of people.  Especially for startups, social media gives customers the opportunity to market for a company just by sharing their products or tagging them in posts.  Common social media outlets they will use are Pinterest, Polyvore, Instagram, and Twitter.

Through Pinterest many companies can have their customers be their advertisers.  Retailers will put their products as pins on the social media platform, enabling people to add them to their boards.  When a user adds this product to their board, their followers will be able to see the pin on their news feed.  They will then be able to add it to their own board.  What is also beneficial for fashion companies with Pinterest is that if one clicks on the pin and it will take them directly to the store website where they may purchase the product.

Polyvore is a social media platform were you can shop, make collages and comment and like others collages.  This platform almost makes a game of shopping and putting clothing and accessories together.  These collages and collections are easily shared to Pinterest as well.

Many retailers in the fashion industry create an Instagram account where they may post pictures every day about what events are going on, what new products you can get and the inside scoop.  The clothing brand Free People often make videos of models wearing their clothes in real life situations.  This often makes the customers feel more involved want to be like the people in the short Instagram videos.

Twitter enables people of the fashion industry to directly talk to customers.  They can answer questions through it, or even give the customers a say.  I tweeted at Nordstrom earlier today and they took the time to answer me within six minutes.

Through social media fashion has moved into the future.  They have made themselves easier to contact, have closer relationships with customers, make products easier available, and awareness of what is going on at their companies.  They even make it easy to copy BeyoncĂ©’ style!

  1. I'm glad you brought this idea of organizational use of social media into the fashion industry. It is something that everyone is impacted by and is often a passion that many people follow closely. I love it that you shared your experience with Nordstom. Such a great company.

  2. I loved this idea. I would not have thought to expand on the Social Media aspects of fashion, but considering it is one of my interests I am glad you did. I thought is added a lot of validity to post a tweet to Nordstroms, it showed how quick they respond, and how much they care about their customers.

  4. I love all the images, it keeps it fun and changes it up. I never realized that companies would make their products into pins to promote them and have their customers promote for them. So smart.

  6. I agree, this is a great idea you have. If companies want to make making money easy they need to create a social media platform and post promotions and they everyone else will do the work for them. Then they can just sit and watch the money flow. The pictures made it really nice and easy to read, I enjoyed it.
